Anke Hagen in laboratory

What is your educational background?

I am a chemist from the University of Leipzig, Germany. I started my research career in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, where I hold a Dr. rer. nat. degree from the same University
and later turned into electrochemistry where I received a Dr. techn. from the Technical University of Denmark.

What is your contribution to the NOAH2 project?

I am coordinating the NOAH2 project. This involves management and administration activities. In addition, I am involved at a scientific level, for example in my role as a supervisor
of the PhD student Federico Capotondo, who works mainly in work package WP4 “Stack integration and validation”.

How can NOAH2 results make a difference in society in the future?

We rely more and more on fluctuating renewable energy sources, which require efficient, low-cost solutions for energy conversion, energy storage, and other energy services to the society.

The NOAH2 concept based on a metallic monolithic stack of solid oxide cells can become a
key element to both, fuel cell operation to produce electricity, and to electrolysis (power-to-X)
to use electricity for production of hydrogen as well. NOAH2 contributes to developing this
innovative concept, to proof its value, and to mature it to enable transfer towards a commercial product.
