Milestone - Cost reduction projections of monolith stack concept

Stack production cost comparison for conventional and monolithic metal supported solid oxide cell architectures
Stack production cost comparison for conventional and monolithic metal supported solid oxide cell architectures
A cost model was established for the monolithic stack concept and the conventional stack concept, both based on metallic supporting structures.

The monolith stack material costs are 87% less than for the stack with metal supported cells (MSC), which translates into a significant reduction of environmental footprint as the manufacturing steps are the same for the two configurations. This shows the great potential of the concept in NOAH2. The model will be further refined and directly integrated with an LCA.

Assumptions:
Metal supported solid oxide cell conventional stack:
10 x 10 cm2 cell
100 SRU stack
Monolith based stack:
10 x 10 cm2 cell
10 monoliths of 10 SRU (100 total)
Same manufacturing methodology (tape casting, lamination, sintering, etc.)
